The "Cultural Diplomacy - The Hellenic Education of the Diaspora"
seminar, took place on June 27, 2006, at the Hellenic Heritage Museum in San Jose and based on the testimony and the comments of all the participants, it was crowned with great success. more

This all day seminar which was well attended, (over 50 participants) was designed by the Hellenic Heritage Institute as a contribution to the continuous struggle of preserving the Hellenic Language among the Greeks of the Diaspora.

Focal point of the seminar: Teaching Greek as a Second Language (GSL).

Among the presenters, Dr. Roula Svorou and Stephan Frazier, Linguistics professors from the SJSU and Maria Hatzinakos, frorl1 the Public Schools of Chicago.

Special visitor/presenter, Nikos Soutopoulos, who traveled all the way from Epirus, Greece to California, shared with us his knowledge and experience related to a very successful program in Albania.

Special guest speaker, his Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, graced us with his presence and inspired us with his spiritual words of wisdom and encouragement.

We sincere hope that this seminar has created a strong awareness of the need to approach teaching Greek As A Second Language and to seek sources of information and knowledge of appropriate methodologies.
